At Buryfields we teach phonics using the Systematic Synthetic Phonics programme from Little Wandle. We teach this programme with absolute fidelity, ensuring that all of our pupils receive a rigorous and coherently planned phonics education. Children who are still at the 'decoding' stage of reading are allocated a book each week via the Collins E-book website or app. Phonics teaching can seem an absolute minefield - especially for those of us who didn't learn to read in this very specific way. We would strongly encourage parents and carers to take time to explore the Little Wandle website, which includes a dedicated parent section that contains example videos of how to pronounce sounds in the precise way we teach. They also bring home a 'sharing book', which may contain words or sounds that they have not yet been taught, and so will need extra help from their grown-ups.
