Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education
Visiting the Almshouses to read and play games with some of the residents is a wonderful experience that our Year 2 children thoroughly enjoy.
Children in Need Day is always very special. The staff and children raise lots of money when the children donate money and wear something 'spotty.' It's great fun to see all the different ways people dress up!
Borrowing artefacts and investigating them in school really brings the teaching of history alive for the children. They are always fascinated by the 'real' objects that people may have used in the past.

Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is crucial for individual pupils and crucial for society as a whole. We believe it is the heart of what education is all about- helping pupils to grow and develop as people. We are very proud that our pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural education is promoted as a whole school but of equal importance is its presence through all of the subjects in the curriculum. The ethos of the school and the development of positive attitudes and values alongside times for reflection and discussion ensure that our pupils receive a very strong spiritual, moral, social and cultural education.
The British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith are promoted at every level through spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
At Buryfields we foster a lifelong love of learning through an exciting, enjoyable, challenging and motivating curriculum. We firmly believe that every child deserves the very best start in life and have high aspirations for all. At Buryfields, we put the children at the centre of all we do.
It is an expectation at Buryfields Infant School that all staff, in all subjects, can and will make a contribution to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils through the taught curriculum and through the use of appropriate teaching and learning strategies e.g. discussion, reflection, pupil participation, circle time, collective worship etc.
The importance of relationships between all school staff, parents and governors is crucial. These relationships are characterised by mutual respect, positive attitudes, a willingness to listen and contribute and by the valuing of all pupils. Our school is an inclusive community which actively promotes mutual respect based on recognising and rewarding personal success and high standards of behaviour.
