The Governing Body is seeking to recruit a co-opted Governor.

The role of the Governing Body in school is a hugely important one, as they provide strategic leadership and accountability. The Governing Body has a strong focus on three core strategic functions:

• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and direction
• Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of the staff
• Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to our young people, give something back to our local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment.

You do not need to have a pre-determined set of skills to be an effective governor, but you do need to have a passion for education, a willingness to ask lots of questions and offer your own perspective! Time is also of course pretty essential; being a member of the governing body takes about 20 hours per term, which includes time for attending meetings, pre-meeting reading and training, as well as completing any monitoring activities.

All governors are expected to attend the half-termly Full Governing Body meetings which are held in the evenings, as well as be a member of either the Resources and Pay Committee (responsible also for premises management, all financial matters and Health and Safety) or the Curriculum Committee; both of these committees usually meet during the school day. 

A co-opted governor Is elected by the full governing body. We are currently looking for someone who is able to commit to a four year term of office as part of our Resources and Pay committee.
